Feb. 8, 1943

Shoe rationing for the American people at the rate of 3 pair a year went into effect at 3PM today. Advanced warning was purposely withheld to prevent hoarding. according to the announcement issued at the White House by James Bryan Director of Economic Stabilization.

June 3-1945 -The Army's requirements for shoes, expected to reach an all-time high of about 31,000,000 pairs in 1945, precluded the possibility of more leather footwear for civilians this year, Robert P. Patterson, Undersecretary of War, reported today.
