This database contains the names of approximately 6.3 million soldiers who served in the American Civil War. In addition to their names, information that may be listed for each soldier includes regiment, company, and rank.

Civil War Pension Index: General Index to Pension Files, 1861-1934

This database is an index to and images of pension cards of Civil War veterans in the United States. Each record includes the veteran's name and state in which he, or his dependents, filed the application. The digitized image of the index card itself, contains additional information on the individual, such as unit of service, date of filing, and application and certificate numbers for the pension case file housed at the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington D.C.

Civil War Service Records

The Civil War Compiled Military Service Records are part of a historic effort to compile and link all available records of soldiers serving in individual states during the Civil War of the United States. This database is a listing of over 5.3 million men who served in the war. Taken from records housed in the National Archives, each record provides the soldier's name, company, and unit. Also provided is the individual's rank when inducted and rank when discharged.

Civil War Prisoner of War Records, 1861-1865

This database contains records relating to Civil War Prisoners of War (POW). The database is comprised of four National Archives (NARA) microfilm series (M1303, M598, M2702, and M918). Each individual’s name has been indexed and is searchable in this database. However, additional information such as their rank, company, regiment, state where from, or date of death may be listed on the original document and may be found by viewing the image.
